4.5 stars for new releases from Michael Cooper
Last week Michael Cooper reviewed two of our latest Te Muna releases for Winestate Magazine. Our 2021 Dry Riesling and 2020 Sauvignon Blanc showed well and were awarded 4.5 stars. Thank you, Michael!
Butterworth Te Muna Dry Riesling 2021 – 4.5 stars
This vigorous, very youthful wine was estate-grown and hand-picked. Bright, light lemon/green, it is light-bodied, with fresh, citrusy, slightly appley flavours, showing excellent delicacy and intensity, a sliver of sweetness balanced by mouth-watering acidity, and a finely balanced, lingering finish. Best drinking 2024+.
Butterworth Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc 2020 – 4.5 stars
Drinking well now, but still unfolding, this estate-grown wine was fermented and lees-aged for a year in seasoned French oak barrels. Bright, light yellow/green, it is a characterful, full-bodied wine with strong, ripely herbaceous flavours, nutty, savoury characters adding very good complexity, and a dry, crisp finish.
